He is the Mesopotamian god of the wind, air, earth, and storms, as well as the patron of the city of Nippur and King of the Gods. In Mesopotamian mythology, Enlil was a supreme deity with many powers, including: Decreeing fates Enlil was the keeper of the Tablets of Destiny, which outlined the fates of gods and mortals, making him the "decreer of fates". His decisions were usually final and could not be altered. Granting kingship Enlil had the power to grant kingship to rulers. Creating Enlil created the hoe, a tool used in farming, and is said to have created heaven and earth. Controlling the weather Enlil was known as "Lord Wind" and was associated with both the moist spring wind and the destructive winds of storms. He was also known as the "East Wind" and "North Wind" in one text. Being unstoppable Enlil was considered an unstoppable force whose decisions could not be questioned.
