These are collective creations of generations who understood the need for unseen protection. Others are spirits of place, such as forests, caves, bogs, and ruins, that have taken shadow form to walk more freely among humans. And some arise in the liminal space between dreaming and waking, where unresolved feelings, protective instincts, and old power take shape as something real enough to follow you home. They are not “of the dark” in a moral sense. They are “of the hidden.” They protect what is sacred and unseen. And they accompany those who carry hidden truths, witches, seekers, those in transition, and those who walk alone.
