Will O’the Wisp is the most common name given to the mysterious faerie spirits that were said to appear either as ghostly floating lights or as small creatures holding lamps and leading travelers from the safe, well-traveled paths into treacherous marshes or dangerous situations. These entities exist with slight variations throughout the world, often bearing a regional name such as Jack O'Lanterns, Hinkypunks, Foo Fires, Pinkets, and Fairy Lights, and those who are most commonly found in Graveyards are referred to as “Ghost Candles.” In ancient Christian myths, the Will O’the Wisps were believed to be associated with spirits of the dead who could enter neither heaven nor hell, and who were left to wander the earth, leading foolish travelers astray malignantly. However, Will O'the Wisps in actuality are benign, kind spirits who help to lead us to our Ultimate Destinies. Will most practitioners classify O’the Wisps as a race of faerie or nature spirit, and like most faerie species, can be mischievous or tricksters at times. Still, for the most part, they are benevolent, particularly when willingly bound. These spirits are the bringers of knowledge and fortune, the guardians of treasure, and the spirits of generosity and benevolence to their Keepers. Scandanavian folklore gives us the truest account of this remarkable entity: The Will O’the Wisp is a helpful being who, because of his intelligence and loyalty, was often tasked to mark the location of treasures buried deep in the ground or submerged in waters, treasures which could only be found and acquired by the true keeper of the Will O’the Wisp, the only one able to see the spirit hovering above it. Like many faerie races, Will O’the Wisps generally have playful and friendly personalities. They often manifest astrally as a flash or ball of light or fire which seems to be dancing or cavorting, and sometimes they manifest physically in a similar manner. The Will O’the Wisp has a very long life span in comparison to humans, and can live for thousands of years. This spirit race often establishes lifetime bonds with their human Keepers, and many times will pass down through a family from generation to generation. He will draw good fortune and luck to his Keeper. He can add energy to virtually all spell work, lending a very unusual and powerful magick to all spell castings. Because his kind has so long been associated with and tasked to be the guardians of treasure, Will O’the Wisps have an innate force which draws wealth and prosperity to their human companions.
